Hackney Oasis

We now have palm trees in the garden which are great – they add a bit of height and break up the expanse of space. We’ll plant them properly once we’ve decided exactly where they’re going to be happy but they should be ok in their tubs for a little while. Having researched a little I think the tall ones are both Cordylines.

Kendra kindly wrapped them up and brought them over to us in her jeep, there was no way they’d have fitted in our car. Thank you Kendra.

Autumn on the way?

But the lawn and weeds are still doing a good job of springing up when we turn our backs for a weekend. The tomato plant has turned into a miniature forest covered in small green tomatoes, and the scardey cat plant has a single flower that looks like it’s come to us straight out of the Little Shop of Horrors, very happy if it starts singing James Brown to me while I weed. And the yellow Buddleia seems to be preparing to burst into flower…

Wednesday off work because it was a sunny day

Sunny Wednesday off work

…and spent the whole day in the garden rebuilding planters and planting out all the little cuttings and plug plants that had been growing away on the kitchen windowsill. So many people stopped for a chat to say they’ve been admiring the sunflowers and had been enjoying watching the progress of the garden, seems to have inspired a few people to go off and do theirs too!

Roll on my sabatical year so I can spend more days like this.

Sunny Wednesday off work

Now I’d just like the cats and the fox to stop pooing on the path and flowerbeds, and for the wasps to read the instructions on The Waspinator and understand they’re meant to be scared off by it.
