Summer of ’76 again

We’re having a tropical summer of long, balmy days with clear blue skies. How many amazing weekends have we had in a row?

Rosie Jasmine…

…Rosie and Saul bought two flowering Clotted Cream Jasmines at the open day at Lee House which I gather has brilliant plants. I’m going to try growing one up a cane in the middle of the garden so it will create a bit of height and we can sit next to in the sunshine.

Beulah’s veggie-filled front garden

Having mentioned Beulah a few posts ago I thought I should take a photo of her garden (unfortunately she wasn’t there to be in the photo). She’s the most wonderful source of information on anything you could possibly want to know about growing plants – from what grows best in the soil on our Hackney road to home-made pesticides. Apparently neighbours saw us both looking over the fence admiring each others’ gardens for weeks before we actually met each other. The first story she told me was of a moonflower from her home in Jamaica that only opens at night and has the most beautiful and unforgettable scent.

This is her amazing garden. Click on the pictures for bigger versions.

The side of the garden

This is where the fruit and tomatoes have been planted in grow bags behind the sleepers. Below the wall it doesn’t get quite as much sun as the front of the garden, but once the plants are tall enough to clear the wall they seem to thrive.

Plant gauntlet

The levels of plants building up, now just want to get some variation in height to the left of the path to break up the straight line a bit more.
